Ensemble La Partita
La Partita was formed in 1974 with the aim of presenting seldom heard compositions alongside well known works from the Baroque and Classical periods. The ensemble takes its name from the Italian for Suite, a musical term originating in the Baroque period for a succession of dances. As was usual at the time, the ensemble plays without a conductor, being led by a Concert Master from the front desk of the violins. Right from the beginning La Partita have been able to attract leading soloists and now enjoy a busy international concert schedule. Every year since 1983 La Partita have performed at the Salzburg Festival where they have concentrated increasingly on the works of Mozart and Haydn. Since 1995 they have also performed regularly at the Vivaldi Church in Venice, and in the autumn of that year they undertook an extensive concert tour of Belgium and Holland. Since their formation 25 years ago La Partita have built up a large group of friends and patrons whose support has helped them to programme a wide variety of music.
